ASHFIELD CREATIVE INDUSTRIES : Hucknall
Creative Space as a Beacon for Regeneration
We were commissioned to look at a series of sites in Ashfield to determine the best option for developing a centre for creative businesses.
Following an analysis of all the sites and buildings – which included two old cinemas and a former international trade centre - a former junior school came out as the optimum solution.
The final proposal was tested against a business plan and a two phased design proposal was developed. Phase one divided the existing classrooms into workspaces, creating a new entrance as well as exhibition and community space. Phase 2 connected a series of new build workspaces into the circulation spine of phase with a bridge and mezzanine straddling the original school hall.
The new building is designed to reinforce the edge of the street and act as a beacon for the new centre, visible across Hucknall and a signal for its regeneration.
