EXTENTION AND REMODEL : Of a Listed Grange
The House That Took Three Centuries to Complete!
This grade 2 listed house was split in the 1920s and, as a result, has a new entrance and hall offset from the original.
As part of resolving the internal planning a statement of significance was agreed with the conservation officer, based on the history of the house. Proposals for alterations and an extension to form a contemporary dining/kitchen space which connect to the garden were justified on a full understanding of the historical significance of each space.
The house is the result of several phases of building. The earliest section dates back to the 17th century, the stair is late 18th century and a wing was added in 1865. The new extension creates a 21st century addition which is legible and sits well with the earlier phases of construction.
