TWENTY ONE APARTMENTS : Sheffield
Distinctive Apartments Designed for Friends
This scheme creates a distinctive new corner building and replaces a row of unremarkable shops. At ground floor, three retail units are created with an entrance to the apartments set back on the side street.
Blocks of multi coloured brick give the body and base of the building a distinctive character, whilst the corner consists of a cantilevered wing of apartments in white render and zinc. This wing steps to reveal generous sun balconies with long views over the ski village. A communal green roof garden is sited with stunning views.
The apartments are well sized with a mix of two and three bedrooms, designed to appeal to young people sharing. Sited on a tram route with local facilities within walking distance, this scheme required minimal parking and is an intense sustainable use for the site.
Planning approval was granted in September 2008.
