BARN CONVERSION : Derbyshire Dales
Trusses should be seen and exposed
These two imposing derelict barns had planning permission for a three bedroom house that would have carved the building into small rooms, loosing all its fantastic open spaces. Our client needed five bedrooms for his growing family which we achieved by putting four bedrooms in one bay of the main barn. By retaining the full height space and revealing the two main trusses, the living room retained the grand structure of the original barn. Bathrooms, study and a master bedroom were placed a new barn, clad in cedar and linked by a glazed bridge to the main barn.
This new family home incorporates rainwater harvesting, ground source heat pumps and solar panels.
Planning consent for our scheme was given in 2008 and the house is close to completion.
