We have just heard that our new building for Hope Valley Yoga has been shortlisted for an RIBA East Midlands Award 2015.

The yoga studio sits on the edge of Hathersage, on Back Lane and gently curves along a boundary to exploit a gap in the village to frame a spectacular view across the hills within the studio. The adjoining garage extends the studio across the rear boundary, creating a curved stone edge to a foot path on one side and a sheltered entry to the studio on the garden side.

The result is a calm space for yoga and a much admired place for people to meet and start classes. Local tradesmen built the studio, the contractor, architect and structural engineer are all neighbours and the groundworks were undertaken by a local farmer.

This project is unusual in its use of local labour and locally sourced, second use materials making it a low energy, sustainable building.

If the building is successful in winning an RIBA regional Award it will also be considered for the Small Project of the Year special Award.

We are very excited!
